I have started the process of lobbying Government to review with urgency 'care in the community' (especially those with aphasia) for stroke survivors. You may be aware that each parliamentary member usually is part of an 'All Party Parliamentary Group' and members will join a group where they have an interest in that subject area.
Debates are held in parliament on stroke and issues discussed such as rehabilitation, so members of parliament are aware of the agenda for stroke. The Department of Health have created a National Stroke Strategy that was implemented in 2007 and is designed to revamp stroke over a ten year period.
Here is the link to review the document: www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/Stroke/index.htm
Please take a look at this document as it outlines what each Local Health Authority has to do in their area with regard to strokes.
I contacted my local MP putting a case to him for review. I contacted my local County Council who are also reviewing services for stroke survivors and their families as well as my local NHS Network.
However, as you will be aware there is 'power' in numbers and I would ask that if you feel the same way as I do then please add your name to the list below as I will then send the list off to Government to show support.
